Mathis Amougou has joined Chelsea on deadline day.
The 19-year-old midfielder has signed for a fee of £12 million on an eight-year deal.
The Frenchman arrives with just 17 professional appearances under his belt, having only made his first-team debut for Saint Etienne in Ligue 2 last season.
He will start first-team training this week, but is expected to go on loan to sister-club RC Strasbourg at the start of the 2025/26 season.
Amougou said: “I’m very happy. It’s an honour for me to sign for such a big club like Chelsea. They believe in young players and the process they have in place to develop us is fantastic.”
Internationally, Amougou represented France at under-16, under-17, under-18 and under-20 level.
His greatest moment for his country so far came at the 2023 under-17 World Cup, where his performances – including a last-minute equaliser in the final – were enough to earn him the Bronze Ball award.
As such, he was moved up to the under-20 category at the start of this season.
